Working-order row instructions

    BEFORE YOU START

Make a motif that repeats with your yarn.

Plan single-crochet colorwork for a pouch, bag panel or repeating band. This workspace focuses on tapestry crochet, where unused yarn is carried inside the stitches and the fabric can behave differently from an ordinary color graph.

    BEST FOR

Carried-yarn motifs, repeating bands and bag panels.

    READ THE GRID

One cell is one single crochet with a color choice.

    THE KEY SETTING

Carried-yarn gauge, repeats and flat or circular work.

From idea to a useful chart

    01

    Swatch with carried strands

Use the same yarns and number of carried strands planned for the project. Measure the resulting gauge.

    02

    Design one repeat

Start with a small motif and a practical palette. Check the join between its left and right edges before expanding it.

    03

    Expand and follow the rows

Use Across and Up to repeat the motif. Terracotta lines identify the original repeat boundaries; the row list follows your construction.

      Frequently asked questions

Why use this instead of the general crochet graph?

Choose this tool for a carried-yarn tapestry workflow. The cell editor is shared, but the project guidance emphasizes carried strands, repeat boundaries and construction-aware working order.

Does the preview show the slant of real stitches?

No. It is a gauge-proportioned rectangular chart. Stitch slant, tension and carried yarn affect the finished fabric, so confirm the motif with a swatch.

      When should I change colors?

For the single-crochet method described here, complete the final yarn-over of the preceding stitch with the next color. Keep the unused yarn positioned to be enclosed by subsequent stitches.

Can I repeat a motif around a bag?

You can expand horizontal repeats and select unturned rounds. Plan the ring, joining method and total stitch count separately; shaping and seam allowances are not added automatically.
