THE CROSS STITCH TOOLKIT

Cross stitch fabric calculator

Turn stitch counts into a fabric size, with an allowance on every side. For full cross stitches worked over one square of Aida.

Fabric count is squares per inch, even when displaying centimeters. Unit changes preserve the border allowance.

How the calculation works

Design width in inches = stitch width ÷ Aida count. Add twice the border allowance to each dimension to get the cut size. Centimeter results use 2.54 cm per inch.

For example, a 140 × 112 stitch chart on 14-count Aida measures 10 × 8 inches. A 2-inch border on every side gives a 14 × 12 inch piece of fabric.

This calculator does not include shrinkage or extra mounting allowance beyond the border you enter. Choose an allowance appropriate for your finishing method. It does not cover stitching over two linen threads.
